Itinerary
Utica Utica, established around 1100 BC, is one of the earliest Phoenician trading posts in Africa. Once a prominent capital linked to Carthage, it was overshadowed by a neighboring city founded in the late 9th century BC. Despite facing highs and lows, Utica made a pivotal choice during the conflict between Carthage and Rome, aligning with the victorious side. This decision in 146 BC led to its revival as the capital of Africa for the next 130 years. Today, the archaeological site of Utica, now 12 kilometres inland due to sedimentation from the Medjerda River, holds significant historical value. Visitors can discover various structures, including the remarkable "waterfall house," temples, a forum, thermal baths, and remnants of theaters and amphitheaters. Utica stands as a testament to the rich legacy of Phoenician civilization in Africa.
